Who is Kasha?

Kasha Wasin is a Canadian Author.  Kasha shares her semi-autobiographical adventures in a down-to-earth way and 'sprinkles' stories about her Ukrainian upbringing.  You will laugh out loud at her antics, shout 'hooray' at her revelations, and even, cry a little at her disappointments.  Most of all, you will smile knowing you too can relate to Kasha's life journey.  Enjoy all that Kasha has to offer you in her stories about living life in an unusual and spectacular way.
Kasha says,
"I have dreamed of writing all my life. When I turned sixty, I decided it was time to start my new chapter."

"SNIP-ITS"

- Finding Purpose in a Random Journey

Synopsis:  After a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), Kasha is flooded with random thoughts of her past.  Needing time to heal, Kasha decides to fulfill her dream of being a writer.  Kasha shares her 'pop-up' memories in "Snip-Its". This book is vulnerable, yet compelling and Kasha's escapades remind you of your own humanity.

"FISHING WITH ANDREW"

- A Daughter's Journey of Finding Peace

Synopsis: A perennial pursuit, Kasha has been working on this history (rather her-story) about her father for over twenty years. The journey starts when Kasha takes a RV vacation with her father.  By day, they explore the Ukrainian homesteads of ancestors, the aging graveyards of loved ones, and the small forgotten towns.  By night, they sit by the campfire, sipping on a beer, in silent reminiscence.  "Fishing with Andrew" is a retelling of this journey.  This book illustrates Kasha's struggling paternal relationship and her internal search to find peace and forgiveness.

"WHISPERS"

- A Journey of Stillness

Synopsis:  Kasha finds a binder in a small box located on the bottom of her storage locker room.  The writing piece is dated "January 1992".  Kasha is unsure if she should resurrect these writings but after careful thought, decides she will do so.  "Whispers" contains the word-by-word format taken from this archival find.  Kasha hopes that her words 'heard in stillness' will continue to provide comfort.

"THE PURSUANT"

- A Journey of Being Pursued

"Pursuant" is currently on Kasha's heart.  She is letting it percolate.  The words will come!

"THE CRYSTAL ROOM"

- A Journey of Society Folk

Synopsis: The "Crystal Room" is a Gatsby-like story imaged in the 1980's.  It is a story about the people who work in a private club and how their lives are juxtaposed against those high society people who pay to belong to the club.  The club represents a hidden world of people who are pretty much entangled in a similar struggle.  Kasha weaves her words to demonstrate that regardless of our 'money clip' we are just folk enduring life circumstances that when shared - bring us together.

Symbolism of Flowers

Source: "Welcome to the Ukraine Magazine" Kiev
Flowers have been always held in great admiration in Ukraine. You would hardly find a peasant house without flowers growing here and there around it.

Flowers please the eye and sooth the soul.  When you are away from home, seeing flowers that used to grow in the garden of the house you grew up in, causes the flood of reminiscences.
Ukrainians of the old times sincerely believed that flowers were a special gift from God.  If anything, the presence of flowers in the everyday life of Ukrainians has grown considerably — and seems to continue to grow.  Hardly any occasion of some significance can do without flowers which are presented in bouquets of considerable sizes.

Flowers have made their way onto embroidered decorative towels, tablecloths, shirts and dresses, and into paintings and murals not only on the walls of public houses but on the walls of private homes as well.  Flowers feature in songs, poetry and in art.

Stylized flowers that appear on dress usually carry some symbolic significance and meaning; they also protect against “evil spirits”, misfortune and diseases.

Only a few of the ancient rituals and beliefs connected with flowers actually survive but they bear testimony to their popularity in the times of old.  Folk songs, bits of which are provided after every entry dealing with a particular flower, are a good evidence of how deeply flowers are embedded in the Ukrainian soul.

I AM FROM ...
I am from
the olden days.
I am from
'garlic lovers' and warm vested people
who call the farm home.
I am from
dancers who twirl head-dresses made of ribbon and flowers
and wear blouses adorned with embroidery
I am from
women who are in the kitchen
stirring their wooden spoons stained with borscht.
I am from
men who are in the living room
smoking cigarettes, playing cards, and drinking whiskey.
I am from
both the kitchen and living room tribes
who shape my DNA and ignite my life .
